A Sydney man is in custody after allegedly working as a black-market agent to sell missile components and coal for North Korea. Officers say 59-year-old, Chan Han Choi, was arrested and charged in Eastwood, in Sydney. It's the first time a person in Australia had been charged with brokering sales and discussing the supply of weapons of mass destruction.
Melbourne lord mayor Robert Doyle has stood down pending an independent investigation into claims of sexual harassment, indecent assault and misconduct. Mr Doyle says he's taking a months leave while an independent external investigation is conducted into what he's described as unspecified claims against him.
Newly re-elected Liberal MP John Alexander says people have misinterpreted comments he made about a disabled parking permit. Following his victory in the Bennelong by-election, Mr Alexander recounted how he was told he was eligible for a permit because of a back injury during his tennis career. He said he knocked it back because he had "some pride" a phrase which has angered disability advocates.
And family and friends of late prime minister Harold Holt have gathered to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his disappearance. Mr Holt mysteriously vanished in 1967 while swimming at Cheviot Beach in Victoria.
